Students in UAE, who are opting physiotherapy as a profession…It’s a really bad terrible idea. I mean working as a physiotherapist is awesome. BUT studying the course in the UAE is a BAD BAD Idea. Why?
Because UAE has not all made it easy for us expats. For colleges its all just a money making business. First of all you must be knowing you need to give the physical therapy licensing exam of UAE after you graduate from your four years BPT degree. And no one is going to hire you if you haven’t passed your licensing exam. Well the requirement for applying for the licensing exam, is to have two years experience. You’re a fresher, no one gives a fuck about that.
There are four licensing agencies in the UAE,
1) MOH – Ministry of Health, requires you to have one year working experience
2) DHA – department of health authority requires you to have two years working experience
3) HAAD – Health Authority of AbuDhabi requires one year working experience
4)DHCC – Dubai HealthCare City requires one year working experience
But all four licensing agencies are of no use to us expat UAE graduates!!!! I mean when you apply for jobs, they say you don’t have the license hence, we can’t hire you. There are sooo many job opportunities here, but we just cannot work. Me and all my batchmates we all are sitting at home with our degrees. You know how frustrating that is. When we went to all the licensing agencies and talked to them about this matter of experience, they tell us on our face go back to your home country or nywhere else!!!! They haven’t started any trainee programmes. Nuthing. No help.
WTF? We have been born and brought up in the UAE, our whole family has been living here from years,, schooling, college everything here and then you tell us go back to your home country?!?!?!?! :@ What about those students who cannot go back to their home country because of certain conditions, like war?!?! Or because their husband is settled in the uae? What are they supposed to do?
But yeah if you’re an Emarati, then your life is set. But Expats, BAD BAD Idea!!!! Its just a waste of money. You can work anywhere in the world, but just not in the UAE until you hv got the experience to apply for the license.
And well hoping for this rule to change, I doubt any licensing agency is gonna change this rule anytime soon, they implemented it in 2012. -_-
Physiotherapy in other countries are much much developed. So if you have a chance to study abroad, take it.
so expats unless you wanna be a depressed frustrated irritated BPT graduate from UAE, then only opt to study BPT here.
GoodLuck in life. Choose your careers and colleges wisely. - xoxo
